Being departed from the Gagas I came to Masangano, where the Portugals have a town of garrison. There was at that time a new Governor, which was called Sienor luan Coutinho (*) who brought authority to conquer the mines or mountains of Cambamba ; and to perform that service the King of Spain had given him seven years' custom of all the slaves and goods that were carried thence to the West Indies, Brazil, or whithersoever, Math condition that he should build three castles, one in Demba, which are the salt mines, the other in Cambamba, which are the silver mines, and the other in Bahia das Vaccas, or the Bay of Cows.
(*)Traducción pesquisador: autoridad que conquistó las minas y montañas de Cambamba, y para prestó este servicio al Rey de España que le había dado por siete años todos los esclavos y los bienes que se llevaron de allí a Indias Occidentales, Brasil o donde quiera, a condición de  que debía construir tres castillos, uno en Demba, que son los minas de sal, el otro en Cambamba, donde están las minas de plata, y el otro en Bahía das Vaccas, o de la bahía de las vacas. Este caballero era tan acojedor a su llegada que su fama se extendió por todo el Congo, mulatos y negros vinieron voluntariamente para servirle.
